Making Public Art and Community Together
More than 300 community members joined together over several months to create 519 Mosaic, a community-engaged project. Please join us in celebration of this new public artwork led by artists Anna Camilleri and Tristan R. Whiston (of Red Dress Productions) with community art apprentices Heidi Cho, Rafaela Dominici Vidinha, and Tamara Perez Mucino.
Unveiling & Reception
7 pm on Monday June 28 2010 at the 519 Community Centre, 519 Church Street.
Refreshments and Special Guests- including a performance by internationally acclaimed taiko drummer Tiffany Tamaribuchi and an opportunity to suggest titles for this new work.
The 519 Community Mosaic has been made possible thanks to the Ontario Arts Foundation, Community One Foundation, and the generous donations of community members. The 519 is a meeting place and focal point for its diverse downtown communities. Within a supportive environment, it responds to the needs of the local neighbourhood and the broader Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transsexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTTQ) communities by supplying resources and opportunities to foster self-determination, civic engagement and community participation.
